Man dead after shooting in west Columbus

Columbus police say the shooting happened on the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive early Sunday morning.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Columbus police say one man is dead after a shooting that happened early Sunday morning on the city's west side.

Officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 800 block of Wedgewood Drive between Eakin and Briggs Roads just after 3 a.m.


When officers got to the scene, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead. Police have not released the victim's name.

Police are calling the shooting a "suspicious death" due to the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Columbus Police Homicide Unit
Hussen Dahir, 20, was taken to Grant Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:30 a.m. 

The other man was taken to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center where he was treated and released. 

Police said the suspect was seen leaving the room and is described as a thin black man, wearing an orange jacket, in his early to mid-twenties.  

Dahir's death is being investigated as the 146th homicide in Columbus in 2020.
